April 20, 2009 | Ted Flato '73 has received wide acclaim both nationally and internationally for his architectural designs. By employing sustainable strategies to a wide variety of building types and scales, Mr. Flato's architecture seeks to conserve energy and natural resources while creating healthy built environments.
Since founding Lake|Flato with his partner David Lake in 1984, the San Antonio based firm has received numerous national architecture awards. In the past three years, Lake|Flato has had four projects selected as Top Ten Green Projects by the Committee on the Environment, the premier award for sustainable design, and his recently completed nature center in East Texas, Shangri La Botanical Gardens, received a Platinum LEED rating, one of only 50 projects in the world to achieve this level of sustainability.
